Professor de Kretser is a reproductive endocrinologist and held appointments as Professor of Anatomy and the founding Director of the Monash Institute of Medical Research. He served as the 28th Governor of Victoria from 2006 to 2011. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, the Australian Academy of Science and the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering. His research interests include male infertility, the hormonal regulation of reproduction and novel mechanisms influencing inflammation and fibrosis. In 2000 he initiated a highly successful program of community and professional education in male reproductive health called Andrology Australia.
